Women’s History Month
Eastern Bank and its employee network, the Women’s Interest Network, are proud to celebrate Women’s History Month.
When we opened our doors in 1818, women weren’t allowed to conduct any business transaction on their own. But that didn’t stop our first customer, Rebecca Sutton, from having a proxy make a bank deposit on her behalf. Women also couldn’t vote at that time and it would be over 100 years later before women were granted voting rights — but not all women, that wasn’t a reality until the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
While we applaud the strides made by women and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, we recognize the work that remains to achieve full equality for women and girls.
